Out of My Mind - June 15, 2007

Happy Almost Summer! Doesn't it seem like we were just battling early spring snowstorms? I have a class that is called Monthly Bliss; it was canceled due to weather so many times that we started calling it Monthly Doom! I have had blossoms on my snowball bush for the first time in six years, my columbine was the size of a bushel basket and my shringle bush is so fragrant outside my sewing room window (it smells like orange blossoms!) How are your gardens doing?

My sewing rooms were such a disaster, with stuff piled everywhere and barely room to turn around in, that I made a concerted effort to actually finish (or get things more nearly finished). I put binding on 10 small wallhangings that were in a pile near my sewing machine and threatening to topple at any moment. Made a small tablerunner that I had cut out several weeks ago--before I lost any of the pieces! Have a new Monthly Bliss quilt designed and the patterns made, fabrics bought and washed. Finished 9 hand pieced blocks this week. Whew--a few more weeks like this and I might make a dent in the UFO pile!

I have phoebes nesting in my old shed--right above the door. They come out and sit on the swing, which is just off the porch in front of my sewing room windows. Here's a picture of one of them.

The last week in May I had the pleasure of traveling to Cape Cod to teach for the Bayberry Quilters. What a wonderful group of ladies! The weather was perfect and I did get to see the ocean and some people parasailing--I bet the water was cold!

Guess that's all the news that's fit to print for now. Stay cool and enjoy some time reading and quilting in the shade!
